An American Choral Cross-Section

Our spring concerts are rapidly approaching.  Please see our event calendar for complete schedule and details.  Hope to see you there!

Here is the press release for our concert:

The Blue Ridge Singers present An American Choral Cross Section: American Choral Works from the 1800s through present day on Friday, April 17, 7:30 at Front Royal Presbyterian Church; Sunday, April 19, 4:00 at Opequon Presbyterian Church, 217 Opequon Church Lane in Winchester and Tuesday, April 21, 7:30 at All Saints Catholic Church in Manassas. The BRS will perform well-known American spirituals and folk songs as well as non-traditional choral music under the baton of BRS artistic director and conductor Dr. Jeffrey Alban, accompanied by Mr. Dan Miller. Admission is free with a suggested donation of $10.

“This is my favorite program yet,” says Alban, now in his fourth season as BRS artistic director. “The music is passionate, exciting and a profound display of American musical composition.” The concert showcases the talents of American composers over the last century. “We will explore original music and unique text settings, including Morten Lauridsen’s Dirait-on and Howard Hanson’s A Prayer of the Middle Ages plus arrangements of familiar tunes such as Peter Wilhousky’s Battle Hymn of the Republic and Shawn Kirchner’s setting of An Unclouded Day.”

Mandated to perform challenging choral music, the Blue Ridge Singers is a twenty seven voice choir composed of amateur and semi-professional musicians, all united by a love of beautiful music.  Currently based in Front Royal, the BRS welcomes audience and singers interested in joyous, adventurous and sophisticated music.
